Tecate, Mexico

Escudo_tecate

Tecate is located on the U.S.-Mexico border east of San Diego, CA and Tijuana, Mexico. The city is situated in a bowl-shaped valley in the lower Sierra Juarez Mountains.

Tecate is located at an altitude of     1,650 feet which allows for a pleasant climate for the population of approximately 100,000 people. Its foundation dates from October 12, 1892, when it was constituted as the Agricultural Colony of Tecate.

Tecate is famous for its wine and beer industries. The fresh air in the valley lured the developers of North America’s first and longest-running health spa, the Rancho La Puerta. Visits to Tecate can include a tour of the local Tecate Brewery where its namesake cerveza has been brewed for nearly 50 years; Rancho La Puerta where can be enjoyed many days of relaxation; and the El Vallecito Museum, famous for its art and native cave paintings.

Tecate became a Sister City to Gilroy on October 23, 1996, and has sent delegates to Gilroy Garlic Festival in 2008 and 2009.
